During the 2007-2008 scouting year, Troop 105 will celebrate the troop’s 40th anniversary year and celebrate the centennial of the world organization of scouting. It’s been a very busy year for Troop 105 leading up to these milestones.
Over the summer, the scouts have been advancing and having a lot of fun in the process. The summer camp experience at Camp Squanto in Plymouth set new records for troop participation and success. Led by our Senior Patrol Leader, Matt M., and his assistants, Brad D. and Jacob S., the troop of 18 scouts completed 47 merit badges, partially completed 11 more, had one scout complete his BSA Lifeguard certification, had two scouts complete the Challenging Outdoor Problem-solving Experience (C.O.P.E.) and climbing program, and had two scouts complete the Flight-to-Eagle program for requirements towards their First Class rank. The troop worked closely as a team to earn a number of intra-troop competitions, including Honor Troop award and the camp-wide relay race (Apache Relay!). Four troop members participated in National Youth Leader Training (NYLT): Matt M., Brad D., Jacob S., and Jay W., and two more served on NYLT staff: Nick O. and David S. One over achiever--Jacob S.--even served on camp staff this summer, staying at camp for 5 weeks!
Outside of the successes at camp, high points for the summer include the rank advancement of the troop’s 30th Eagle Scout (way to go Ricky F.!), welcoming the troops newest scout (awesome job at Summer camp Neil S.!), and election of two members of the troop to the Order of the Arrow (congratulations Andrew A. and Paul A.!).
The last year leading up to the summer was eventful, with the troop enjoying many adventures this year. Some of the most notable trips that the scouts and leaders enjoyed were: the C.O.P.E./climbing program at Camp Greenough on the Cape, the canoe trip on the Saco River in New Hampshire, the campout at Wellington State Park on Newfound Lake, and the ski trip to Pat’s Peak. This new year of scouting promises much more.
NOTE: Troop 105 is holding an open-house, sign-up night at 7 pm on September 18th in the cafeteria at North Pembroke elementary school. Boys from 11 to 18 who would like to experience the fun and adventure of scouting are encouraged to join Troop 105.
For more information about joining Troop 105, see the troop’s website at http://www.pembroketroop105.org, or call Scoutmaster David Skolnick at 781-829-9106.
Troop 105 is grateful for the support it receives from the community and volunteers, and there are some extra important “Thank You’s” that are needed here.
Along with the Lions Club and Troop 43, Troop 105 has been working diligently to renovating the Grange building on Route 27. Thanks to the Pembroke community for your donations to help purchase materials to complete this great building.
Troop 105 would like to thank the citizens of Pembroke for their generous donations to the troop’s bottle/can recycling bin located behind the Town Hall. When you make the decision to leave your empties there, you are making it possible for boys to camp and keep on scouting.
Big thanks to all the leaders and parents who keep Troop 105 running through volunteering their time, expertise, and patience. In particular, Troop 105 would like to especially thank Donna F. (past Advancement Chair), Lisa Z. (past Committee Chair), Rick Z. (past Quartermaster), Belinda H. (past Secretary), Bob H. (past Assistant Scoutmaster who lost his battle with cancer this year), and Mike O. (past Scoutmaster). Without your dedication, service, and giving hearts, Troop 105 would not exist today. Thank you again, Troop 105
